Maine School Choice

from The Maine Heritage Policy Center

Welcome!

WELCOME!

As The Maine Heritage Policy Center has been reporting for months, school choice in Maine is under assault from the school district consolidation law. Choice in the Bath area was lost last year, and lost this past Election Day in Durham and Pownal and in Etna and Dixmont.

But, there is good news! Because of the hard work of citizen groups, choice was saved in Raymond and Orland! The lesson to be learned is if you want to save choice, you need to get involved and organized!

Please join us as we work to put together a statewide coalition to preserve and expand school choice opportunities for Maine students! Stay tuned to this site and please feel free to contact me at sbowen@mainepolicy.org with any questions or feedback.

Could consolidation lead to MORE school choice?

MHPC has done quite a bit of work to publicize the fact that school choice in Maine is under threat. Is it possible that school choice could be expanded as a result of consolidation?

The Times Record reports that residents of Wiscasset, which is destined to be the only non-choice district in its new RSU, are thinking… Continue
